To the right-hand side of Mapledurham Lock (heading upstream from Caversham) the weir spans nearly the entire width of the river and is the turning point for our 90 minute round trip cruises from Reading*. Water rushes over the weir and creates a cooling effect on hot summer days as well as perfect photo spot as the boat turns. In the middle of the weir, added some years ago is a salmon ladder which was intended to assist with the return of salmon to the river. Whilst the water is good quality salmon are a rare sight!
