Shiplake lock is one of our favourites, it has a semi-rural feel to it and is in a tranquil position. The lock itself is relatively small and the nearby weir has an equally small fall. Entering from upstream you pass a unique permanent campground, on exiting you pass under a steel railway bridge that makes this quite an exciting and beautiful little spot. Shiplake lock is best accessed by river and marks the end of a long reach down from Sonning and the start of the reach to Marsh Lock and Henley.
